HAIR DENSITY
The density of transplanted hair is an important factor for determining the quality of hair transplantation operation. Here, the important point is which criteria are used to determine esthetically adequate hair density.
How is hair restoration with a higher hair density performed?
Hair with a normal density is composed of 70-100 follicular units per square centimeter (FU/cm2). According to the results of scientific studies, hair loss is recognized, when hair density is reduced by 50%. This can be called “sensible density” in a different way from mathematical density. Sensible density higher than 50 follicular units per square centimeter corresponds to hairy appearance. A density lower than 20 follicular units per square centimeter corresponds to thinned hair. A density lower than 10 follicular units per square centimeter corresponds to lost hair (the scalp is completely observed).
According to this result, 50 follicular units per square centimeter would be enough for the hair transplantation. If the donor area allows, “Dense Packing” technique which means placing the highest number of follicular units possible in the smallest area is used in İSTANBUL HAIR CLUB; this means restoring hair with more than 65 FUs per square centimeter.
“Sensible density” is not only dependent to the rate of growth or the hair being curly, but to the structure of the hair and the operator’s ability to plan the distribution of follicular units. This is the reason for the fact that while less than 30 follicular units per square centimeter can lead to a natural and dense result in some individuals, some others need more than 65 follicular units per square centimeter.
To obtain a naturally appearing outcome it is very important how and with which devices the canals where the follicular units will be placed are opened. We obtain the most natural results
